“Generally, gerrymandering gives an unfair advantage to the party in power during redistricting, but the same could be said of the appointees to a commission as well. My only, highly impractical alternative would be assigning citizens of a state to a particular congressional district at random, rather than by geographical area. This would ensure that all citizens of that state were represented equally, rather than by gerrymandered districts.”
