Would you consider a journalist's role to be more about reporting facts or influencing public opinion?

Reporting facts. The public should make up their own opinion. Isn't that what the report of reporter should mean? A motivational speaker is someone who tries to sway people.

I'd say it's about jotting down the facts because it's the only way people will know about these things, so they must make it as clean as possible.

A journalist should only report facts, not opinions. Any opinions made should be clearly stated as such, and not presented as fact.

How would you feel if expressing your opinion could result in severe punishment?

 @9LWHZ54Republican from Indiana commented…2wks2W

I would be extremely disappointed. America is the "Land of the Free", if I was not aloud to have my rights then I would feel like I mean nothing to anyone. I believe that peoples opinions help people see different sides of thing sand helps people discuss things on a deeper level.

Is there ever a situation where limiting freedom of speech is justified?

 @SwingStateFrogLibertarianfrom Maine commented…2wks2W

This situation with Sergei Mingazov is a clear violation of the principle of free speech, something that's non-negotiable in a free society. It's alarming to see a government go to such lengths to stifle dissent and control the narrative by putting a journalist under house arrest simply for doing his job. If we let this pass without strong opposition, it sets a dangerous precedent for freedom of the press and speech worldwide.
