Volkswagen Plant Unionized In Texas

Tennessee factory voted to join the United Auto Workers, a landmark win for the 89-year-old union as it seeks to expand where it has struggled before, with foreign-owned factories in the South.

The UAW won in a landslide with 73% of workers who cast ballots in favor of union representation. About 84% of the plant’s 4,300 eligible workers participated.The union called the outcome a historic victory, and said it is the first time a southern auto plant outside the three Detroit automakers has been organized by the UAW.

The vote is a breakthrough for the labor group, whose membership has shru…  Read more

Say goodbye to those jobs to Mexico. Making $70,000 in the south is like making $100,000 in Detroit. It never ceases to amaze me to the propensity of the stupidity of my fellow Americans. SMH. What ends up happening is a decline in motivation and desire. The workers now are sheep to be herded by corrupt union bosses. Think of the Sopranos. Get ready for the shakedowns.

 @UniqueDirectUnityfrom Wisconsin commented…2wks2W

If the US German transplants go UAW, then we're down to the Asian producers. The worst vehicles I have owned over my entire adult life were UAW-built autos from Detroit. Only two were reasonably good. My 1992 Ford Taurus was a good car and we had a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a while that was fabulous in snow (but brutal on gasoline...). VW will learn quickly that the UAW is not the same as the German labor unions that actually work more like craft guilds.

 @AmbitiousDunbirdLibertarian from Texas commented…2wks2W

Thanks to the UAW, even if we slap 200% tariff on imported Chinese autos, US autos still won't be able to compete.

Plant will be closed within 5 years. US sales are already in serious decline, and electric production is moving to China.

Republicans erupt into open warfare over Ukraine aid package vote

Republican divisions over military support for Ukraine were long simmering. Now, before Saturday’s extraordinary vote in Congress on a foreign aid package, they have erupted into open warfare – a conflict that the vote itself is unlikely to contain.

Mike Johnson, the speaker of the House of Representatives, triggered an all-out split in his own party’s ranks last week by finally agreeing, after months of stalling, to a floor vote on the $95bn foreign aid programme. Passed by the Senate in February, it contained about $60bn for Ukraine, $14bn for Israel, and a smaller amount…  Read more

It’s no coincidence that the Uniparty is seeking to pass sweeping new powers to ban websites and spy on Americans at the same time that it bankrupts America with forever wars. This agenda is increasingly unpopular and can only be propped up with authoritarian tactics.

 @EcstaticTurtlePeace and Freedomfrom New Jersey commented…2wks2W

It’s not “just” $61 billion. Ukraine will need massive annual cash infusions to stave off total defeat. So it’s $61 billion as the baseline for an annual appropriation in a new forever war.

 @EmptyLizardLibertarian from Georgia agreed…2wks2W

Note that the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War also began with annual appropriations in the $60B range. Those wars ended up costing trillions.

I've long been concerned that Biden, Blinken & Sullivan would blunder us into World War 3, but at least it would be a blunder. The Neocon wing of the GOP, which demands immediate war with Iran and even more escalation in Ukraine, wants to drive us right in.

 @R3ferendumPhilNo Labels from New Jersey commented…2wks2W

RFK Jr. explains the origins of the Ukraine War perfectly. The West could have made peace if it had been willing to take NATO expansion off the table. The claim that Putin wants to conquer all of Europe is a hoax to justify endless funding.

5 things to know about the Grants Pass homelessness case before the US Supreme Court

https://knkx.org/law/5-things-to-know-about-the-grants-pass-home…

On April 22, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case City of Grants Pass, Oregon, v. Gloria Johnson. The original legal complaint was filed in October 2018, and nearly six years later, it has made its way from Grants Pass up to the highest court in the country.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2wks2W

Is it fair to criminalize homelessness, or should the government focus on addressing the root causes and providing support services?

 @WildfowlAriaProgressive from North Carolina commented…2wks2W

I really hope the Supreme Court takes this opportunity to set a humane precedent that addresses the root causes of homelessness rather than just the symptoms. It's about time our policies reflect compassion and understanding towards those who are struggling, rather than criminalizing them for their circumstances. This case could be a turning point in how we as a society approach homelessness, focusing on providing support and solutions rather than just pushing the problem out of sight. It's crucial that the decision supports the rights of homeless individuals to have access to public spaces without fear of being criminalized. After all, addressing homelessness with empathy and comprehensive solutions is the only way we're going to solve this crisis.

US to Withdraw Over 1,000 Troops from Niger, Shifting Dynamics in West Africa

In a significant shift in its military strategy in West Africa, the United States has agreed to withdraw its more than 1,000 troops stationed in Niger, officials announced.
