Former White House chief of staff Ron Klain openly questioned President Joe Biden’s political strategy Tuesday night, arguing he was too focused on long-term infrastructure projects and not enough on immediate economic needs as he runs for reelection.
“I think the president is out there too much talking about bridges,” Klain said, according to audio exclusively obtained by POLITICO. “He does two or three events a week where he’s cutting a ribbon on a bridge. And here’s a bridge. Like I tell you, if you go into the grocery store, you go to the grocery store and, you know, eggs and milk are expensive, the fact that there’s a fucking bridge is not [inaudible].”
“He’s not a congressman. He’s not running for Congress,” said Klain. “I think it’s kind of a fool’s errand. I think that [it] also doesn’t get covered that much because, look, it’s a fucking bridge. Like it’s a bridge, and how interesting is the bridge? It’s a little interesting but it’s not a lot interesting.”

Do you think immediate economic concerns like inflation should be prioritized over long-term infrastructure projects?
@9LH4G7R1mo1MO
I think that since inflation is going up so fast, we should look into cheaper ways to life to make life easier for everyone.
@9LGMF471mo1MO
Inflation is ruining our country and it needs to be taken care of.
@9LGKSH31mo1MO
Inflation is ruining daily life for most low income households.
Yes. The government should not be involved in the economy OR infrastructure.
@ISIDEWITH1mo1MO
If you had to choose, would you prefer your government to invest in tangible projects you can see, like bridges, or in efforts to lower costs of daily essentials?
@naftalisLibertarian 1mo1MO
The government stands too much as it is, it must lower its debt.
@9LHJX7B1mo1MO
I think we should lower costs of daily essentials
@9LGM8FT1mo1MO
Efforts to lower costs of daily essentials
@9LGLQNY1mo1MO
It's what we use, it's what we work for, it's what we need.
@ISIDEWITH1mo1MO
Can long-term projects like infrastructure improve our economic situation in ways that addressing inflation directly might not?
@9LGLPFSRepublican1mo1MO
Building infrastructure can help the economy
@9LGL5DK1mo1MO
I think its important and helpful
@9LGKQWK 1mo1MO
I dislike inflation, costs to much
@9LGJ9K21mo1MO
I feel like inflation isn't the issue right now, I think unemployment is.

Inflation prices? Yeah sounds like a bad idea and the bridge thing is better.
@S3curityMattSocialist1mo1MO
can you link these 2 or 3 bridge ribbon cuttings Biden does every week?
@S0cialistMartyDemocrat1mo1MO
I get this sounds nice. The challenge is, a President has so little power over grocery prices/gas prices.
@SeafowlHalDemocrat1mo1MO
Maybe because a couple of them have been hit by ships?
Irony alert. Klain once said inflation was something only the rich complained about.
@FederalistLunaGreen1mo1MO
Because Biden and his elite crew don't do their own grocery shopping or are in the market for a new car or home. They don't experience our lives.
