How does learning about the bridge collapse influence your thoughts on the safety of important structures near transportation routes?

I makes me believe that we need more safety features, not just on ships and cars, but on our infrastructure. Like creating a rolling barrier, x distance from bridges, to ensure that a ship if it loses compulsion, can safely ram into the barrier and roll away from the bridges pylons.
