I wish I was at optimistic as you to believe 99% of them population doesn't agree with it. It happens every day so either people just aren't paying attention to their actions to realize how their own bias impacts their decisions and interactions with others (entirely likely) or as the question suggests, they don't understand it to begin with and therefore aren't trying to avoid it.
As a woman I inherently don't feel safe around men I don't know for example. I have to err on the side of caution and assume all strangers are rapey murdering **** heads. That does… Read moren't mean they are but I don't know yet. Nonwhite people are stopped by police in a higher proportion than white people. Are all nonwhite people always doing something wrong? Nope so why are they treated differently?
Why does rape have a statute of limitations at all? You've clearly demonstrated a lack of self control and/or the ability to behave in society. You don't get a pass for assaulting someone because it was a long time ago... It's bull **** and one of 1000 ways women are treated differently than men. And before anyone says "but need are raped too", yes of course they are but historically it happens to people who are viewed as "less than" in society. Women were historically treated as property, children, the mentally unstable, sex workers, slaves, prisoners of war, and anybody else who they think the general population won't give a **** about. KKK murders barely investigated at the time, victim blaming because sex workers deserve it right? They put themselves in a risky situation.
Humans suck at seeing other humans as other humans. We just do and it's awful and ridiculous and disgusting and it doesn't matter how many laws we have or how many people disagree with it... we can't stop doing it and I have no idea why. The mental gymnastics people do to justify their own narrative rivals Cirque de Soleil. See the prior reply to this as an example.
