California Introduces First-In-Nation Slavery Reparations Package

 @KnowledgeableR3volutionLibertarian from Minnesota commented…4mos4MO

So the State that never had slavery is going to provide "reparations" for slavery?

Explain how that works...

Quote from the article

“Not included is any type of financial compensation to descendants of Black slaves”

Cool, but that still doesn't explain why the residents of the Free State of California, which never had slavery, have to give non-economic reparations for slavery in the first place.

I read it to say reparations for imminent domain losses and entities/institutions racially discriminating. I’ve simplified it here, but it’ll come across better if you read the article.

I read the article and the report, and its clear that since there was no slavery in California it's not asking for "reparations" as that term is understood.

If it's because of claimed "systemic" racism, don't play the "slavery" card and just call it that.

I’m not educated on the subject of each state’s history to comment directly.

I would just say that we should all know that there has been/is racism across the planet, and here at home, so we’d benefit from addressing it openly, honestly, with improvement in mind.
