Humans wrong one another. We are vicious in gentle and brutal ways. From nepotism to genocide. Life is not fair. Why make this the core curriculum? Is it true? Yes. Should it be ignored? No. But should it be a fundamental theory we present to elementary school kids? Middle school kids? Hormonal teenagers?
How about we work on literacy, handwriting, math? Like before we discuss Aesop Fable's or Shakespeare, or Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, or Old Yeller? Bronte sisters? Jane Austen? Harry Potter? Can we get them to read something? To know the year of our founding? Constitution? What's wrong with can they spell the state capitals - what's the name of trees or birds? Can they read a map of Chicago or Akron? Do they know how to do laundry or cut a piece of wood? Cook a meal? Or we do regular history or math or spelling or reading? You want CRT? A collegiate level new learning/school of thought out of polysci/WGST applied to race -racial intersectionality? They can't count to 100 or do long division, and you want to talk about a theoretical undefined limit of race crossed with economics crossed with culture crossed with nation crossed with gender crossed with hairstyle crossed with... by which they will be judged? Isn't peer pressure and middle school politics hard enoguh? You want to teach them cutting edge Bell Hooks meets WEB Dubois social theory? They don't need Crenshaw's Theses so young...they can major in it if they want to in college. How about we get them into college or even just ready for a job one day? How about 5x each and getting the kids to string 4-5 sentences together? I don't need this race of student resenting that race of student because of yesterdays lecture. I need kids who can spell 'because' and 'thorough' - Who know what an independent clause and dependent clause are - who can write an email when they work for a company - Who can do times tables up to 10 by 6th grade instead of maybe sophomore year - so they can balance a check book or know how many diapers or eggs they can afford at $5 a pop. It's like - we are already behind in education and you want Race Theory as an elective instead of music in the K-12 schools? And It's on me to defend this stance? Its not even about CRT, its about teaching these kids fundamentals. Practice dribble, passing, and shoot free-throws, before you doing 360s alley-oop dunks.
