Should the government increase environmental regulations to prevent climate change?
Yes, and provide more incentives for alternative energy production
The less we do about Global Warming now the worse it is going to get later. So not working for and encouraging alternative forms of energy is shortsighted.
The companies responsible for Global Warming have used the Federal Government and, within it, the Court system to limit how they can be regulated and to prevent people and cities harmed by Global Warming from being able to sue them for damages after a crisis or disaster due to or made worse by Global Warming.
This means fossil fuel companies have already caused damages to public infrastructure and individual people's private homes and not had to pay them back for it. This is unfair, irresponsible, and (if capitalism means paying your own bills) not even capitalist (fossil fuel companies are dumping the costs related to their business on other people and organizations). It is leaving others to suffer through and deal with the consequences of those companies operations and the use of the products they make as those products are expected to be used.
The use of the Court system to hinder the EPA's ability to regulation carbon pollution that comes from burning fossil fuels means that new regulations should be passed in order to compensate.
Additionally dishonest politicians associated with the fossil fuel industry have tried to hamper slow renewable energy in favor of the fossil fuel industry (that likely pays their campaign bills). An example of this comes from the Texas Governor blaming wind power for the blackouts that occurred in during a cold snap in recent years when the data shows the wind power outperformed other methods of electricity generation during that cold snap. Texas's Governor was actually lying about why the blackouts occurred and signed off on increased fees afterwards for wind energy when other forms of power generation actually failed, and failed because Texas had refused to require them to be ready for cold snaps. During the same time period it was much colder in states much further North like Iowa and Minnesota the power didn't fail in them-including power from wind energy.
