Things like hard work and talent are often determined by factors out of a person’s control, such as their upbringing and genetics. However, rewarding hard workers with more money incentivizes harder work and more productivity in the long term. We can’t have a completely egalitarian economic system, as there would be little incentive to work hard and innovate; however, we should recognize how randomly distributed things like talent are, and create a system where everyone earns enough for a comfortable lifestyle, even if it means higher taxes for those earning the highest amounts.
