Should there be more restrictions on the current process of purchasing a gun?
No, and the government should pass a national “stand your ground” law
In this modern state of agitation, passing a "stand your ground" law will be one of the strongest forces into pushing the USA into fascism. When people are legally encouraged to defend themselves against threats, they will get very paranoid. Maybe gun-owners will think that minorities existing near them are threats, as well as those who disagree with them. As such, many journalists will be afraid to tell the truth if they know they could be shot, and people will be afraid to speak their mind when they have issues.
